Jack Vettriano

 "Vettriano's sexy canvases are like movie stills, freezing a moment of seduction or confrontation. Elegant men and women, armed with cigarettes and cocktails, are painted in vignettes hinting at erotic and dangerous activities, with intimacy lost, betrayal and heartache. Even in his magical plein air compositions, his stylized figures remain wary and self-conscious. Vettriano's interiors—hotel rooms, bordellos, restaurants—depict a strangely lightless light as if the dark deeds of the characters were taking place on a brilliantly sunny day. His exteriors have the flavour of the exotic and forbidden."
